Head of Experience Onsite – Full-time – Cape Town, South Africa

About the Role

As Counder's Head of Experience, you will be the architect and orchestrator of world-class experiences that bring our network to life. You'll lead the planning, production, and execution of our flagship invite-only Conference—a multi-day gathering of 500+ visionary leaders in Cape Town—along with curated intimate events and regional gatherings throughout the year globally.

Working directly with the CEO and leadership team, you'll own every dimension of the event experience: venue and production, programming and flow, partner integration, guest experience, and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities

Conference Planning & Production

  • Lead comprehensive planning and execution of flagship Counder Conference (500+ attendees, multi-day program)
  • Develop event strategy, theme, and overall vision in collaboration with leadership
  • Oversee venue selection, contract negotiation, and site management
  • Manage all production elements: staging, AV, lighting, branding, signage, technology
  • Coordinate catering, beverage programs, and all food & beverage experiences

Programming & Experience Design

Your Profile

  • Proven Communications Leader: 5–7+ years in senior communications roles, with demonstrated success building and executing PR and content strategies from scratch or at scale.
  • Media Network: Established relationships with business, finance, and technology media. Track record of securing coverage in tier-one publications.
  • Exceptional Writer: Outstanding writing and storytelling abilities. You craft narratives that inspire action and resonate with sophisticated audiences.
  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to translate vision and strategy into compelling communications that drive business outcomes.

About the Role

As Counder's Chief Operating Officer, you will be the operational backbone of our organization, working directly with the CEO and co-founders to scale our business while maintaining the exceptional standards that define our brand. You'll own the end-to-end execution of our events, operations, finance, and internal systems – ensuring everything runs seamlessly so our community can focus on what matters: meaningful collaboration and decisive action.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Own day-to-day operations across all business functions: communication, events, finance, operations, technology, and administration.
  • Build and lead a high-performing operations team, including events, finance, partnerships, and content functions.
  • Establish scalable processes, systems, and workflows that support rapid growth without compromising quality.
  • Serve as the primary operational decision-maker, balancing strategic priorities with practical execution.

Financial Management

  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, cash flow management, and month-end/year-end reporting.
  • Manage relationships with accountants, auditors, and financial advisors.
  • Drive profitability through disciplined budget oversight and strategic resource allocation.
  • Own partner invoicing, payment schedules, and revenue tracking.

Event Operations

  • Ensure flawless execution of all Counder events, from intimate dinners to our flagship Conference.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, logistics coordination, and on-site operations.
  • Manage event P&L and ensure budget adherence while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
  • Continuously improve event operations through post-event analysis and process refinement.

Systems & Technology

  • Own Counder's operational tech stack (Notion, CRM, automation tools, financial systems).
  • Work with the CTO to optimize data infrastructure, reporting dashboards, and workflow automation.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance across all systems.

Strategic Partnership

  • Work closely with the CEO to translate strategic vision into operational reality.
  • Provide data-driven insights to inform key business decisions.
  • Represent Counder in operational matters with partners, vendors, and stakeholders.

Your Profile

  • Proven Operational Leader: 8–10+ years in senior operations roles, with demonstrated success building and scaling operational functions from the ground up.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong grasp of financial management, budgeting, P&L ownership, and cash flow planning. Experience working with accountants and managing multi-currency operations is a plus.
  • Events Experience: Deep understanding of high-end event operations, logistics, and hospitality standards. Experience with exclusive or luxury events strongly preferred.
  • Systems Thinker: Obsessed with process, efficiency, and systems design. You see bottlenecks before they happen and build elegant solutions.
  • Team Builder: Experience hiring, developing, and leading cross-functional teams. You inspire excellence and accountability.
